This was translated from the Latin by Gould and appears in the book Cardano: The Gambling Scholar by Ore Ore provides a fascinating discussion of Cited by: Probability is a numerical description of how likely an event is to occur or how likely it is that a proposition is true. Probability is a number between 0 and 1, where, roughly speaking, 0 indicates impossibility and 1 indicates certainty. The higher the probability of an event, the more likely it is that the event will occur. This book first explains the basic ideas and concepts of probability through the use of motivating real-world examples before presenting the theory in a very clear way. I found a nice feature of the book the fact that simulation is deliberately used to develop probabilistic intuition.

Jul 31,  · Gary Laird's New Book "The Improbabilities of Probabilities: A Guidebook to the Universe" Offers Solutions to Past Selves in Creating New Selves in the Present. In gambling, a Dutch book or lock is a set of odds and bets which guarantees a profit, regardless of the outcome of the gamble. It is associated with probabilities implied by the odds not being coherent, namely are being skewed e.g. TBTF and TBTJ.. In economics, the term usually refers to a sequence of trades that would leave one party strictly worse off and another strictly better off. assumed probabilities only reflect subjective beliefs. There is a large body of successful applications in science, engineering, medicine, management, etc., and on the basis of this empirical evidence, probability theory is an extremely useful tool.
